A solvent resistant sprayer uses VITON (FKM) seals with a nylon pump and stainless steel springs, built for petroleum and hydrocarbon solvents, solvent based sealers, thinners and cleaners, where a standard seal swells and fails within a job or two. There is one important exception, and it catches people out: acetone and other ketones.

Which solvents it handles
On Klager's resistance list, the solvent build is rated for white spirit (mineral turps) and diesel at up to 100%, and for petroleum based brake cleaners and solvent degreasers. The acetone and ketone exception
Acetone and MEK (ketones) swell standard VITON seals, and many brake cleaners, panel wipes and thinners mix petroleum solvents with acetone. Klager's 02/2026 resistance list does not recommend any standard sprayer for pure acetone, including the standard EPDM model. For solvent mixtures with 20 to 50% acetone, Klager builds the Master Solve+. For pure acetone or MEK, ask us about the Klager Master Clean+. Solvent and acid sprayers are different builds
Klager makes VITON sprayers in two separate builds. The solvent build has a nylon pump and stainless steel springs, and it is not rated for acids. The acid build has a polypropylene pump and acid resistant springs, and it is not rated for petroleum solvents. Keep separate, labelled sprayers, and use an acid resistant sprayer for acid work. Both are part of our range of chemical resistant sprayers.

Common questions
Which seals resist solvents?
VITON (FKM) for petroleum and hydrocarbon solvents, in a solvent build with a nylon pump. Acetone and MEK are the exception: they need a specialist Klager build.
Which solvents can I spray in a solvent resistant sprayer?

Can I spray acetone or MEK?

Can I spray brake cleaner?

Can I use a solvent resistant sprayer for acids?
No. Solvent sprayers use a nylon pump that acids attack, and acid sprayers use a polypropylene pump that petroleum solvents attack, even though both have VITON seals. Keep separate sprayers for acids and solvents.
